Certificate of Professional Achievement in Implantology
Implant Fellowship
This advanced program leading to a Certificate of Professional Achievement in Implantology is a 2 day per week / 2 year program or a 1 day per week / 4 year program designed to train practitioners to a level of clinical proficiency in Implant Dentistry. The number of places in either track (2 year or 4 year) may vary year by year. In some years, only one of the two tracks may be offered.
Applicants must be already educationally qualified specialists: (e.g., Prosthodontists, Periodontists, Endodontists) to apply.
Lectures / seminars (generally) take place on Tuesdays and Thursdays from September to June and attendance is required.
Clinical training takes place on Tuesdays & Thursdays from September to June and attendance is required.
Practitioners are academically trained via basic and advanced didactic lectures, seminars, and literature review sessions (classic and current articles). All topics pertinent to surgical and prosthetic dental implantology are covered; e.g. diagnosis and treatment planning; surgical protocols (implant placement, sinus grafting, guided bone regeneration, soft tissue grafting; prosthetic protocols (implant and abutment level procedures, screw vs. cement retained, prosthesis design (fixed vs. overdentures); and aftercare.
Clinical procedures include all of the aforementioned protocols performed on patients under the supervision of experienced specialists on the faculty of the College of Dental Medicine of Columbia University.
Research projects, academic presentations and publication opportunities are part of the Fellowship experience.
This Fellowship is based on the curriculum that for the past 20 years has provided training to hundreds of practitioners, both domestic and international; and has been referred to as a “clinical practice- altering” experience.

Admission Requirements
Prospective students seeking admission for the class starting in September 2012 may submit applications through December 1, 2011 (on-line). This program does not require the GRE. In addition to your application, you must include a letter of recommendation from the Dean of your dental school, three letters of recommendation from other dental school faculty, undergraduate college transcripts, dental school transcripts, and National Board Scores Part 1. Some applicants will be chosen for admission interviews, which are required before acceptance". Foreign students are not currently admitted to this program.
