Orthodontics, TMJ animal model

Dr. Jing Chen is interested in the molecular pathways that regulate temporomandibular joint (TMJ) growth and degeneration. The TMJ is composed of many types of cell at various stages of maturation. We have developed mouse models of mechanical loading induced TMJ remodeling and have extensively characterized how changing the occlusal loading affects TMJ chondrocyte growth and maturation. We also characterized different cell lineages of condylar cartilage based on the GFP-labeling technique.
