COMMUNITY DENTCARE SHOWS SUPPORT FOR THE UNINSURED
Columbia’s School of Dental and Oral Surgery’s Community DentCare Network joined forces with Northern Manhattan Community Voices Collaborative, New York-Presbyterian Hospital, and 21 community-based organizations in northern Manhattan to host a series of community and campus events to raise awareness about the plight of the uninsured. The festivities took place during Cover the Uninsured Week, March 10-16, 2003. Events included free health screenings; health education information; on-campus student activities; a seminar entitled, Covering the Uninsured: A National and Local Crisis; and facilitated enrollment for uninsured families in northern Manhattan. Over 50 community residents applied for health insurance. Council members Robert Jackson and Miguel Martinez showed their support by attending the events and adding their names to a proclamation providing a single rallying point in support for the uninsured.
