ACADEMIC REQUIREMENTS: Candidates must be graduates of foreign dental schools to apply to this 2.5 year program.
APPLICATION PROCEDURES: Applications for admission with advanced standing are accepted between April 15 and May 31 only for a January enrollment. To apply for admission with advanced standing, candidates must submit a complete application package in one mailing, except where noted. The package must include:

A 1-2 page personal statement, providing information on academic background, career goals, reasons for seeking admission, and other personal qualifications.

A non-refundable check or money order in the amount of $100, made payable to Columbia University.
Transcript evaluation
Columbia University College of Dental Medicine requires Advanced Standing applicants to the DDS Program to provide official evaluation of all documents from foreign institutions that are presented as part of the application process.

Letters of recommendation from one faculty member and the academic dean of the original dental school, as well as one post-doctoral reference, if applicable.
Official results of the National Board Exam, Part I: No application will be considered without certified copies of scores from the National Board Exam, Part I. The scores may, however, be submitted separately from the rest of the application. Detailed information about the National Board Exam can be found at http://www.ada.org/prof/prac/licensure/natboard/index.html.
If you took the NBE Part 1 after they became pass/fail, you are required to take the Dental Admissions Test (DAT) exam. You can register for the exam at: http://www.ada.org/dat.aspx. DAT scores will be required as part of the application starting with the 2013 application cycle.
Official results from the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL):
A minimum score of 600 is required (250 on the computerized version) or 100 on the ibt. Visit www.TOEFL.org for more information on the test.

Admissions Procedures:
Visas: Upon acceptance to the program, any student who indicated on their application that they are neither a United States citizen nor a permanent resident of the U.S. will receive material that explains the specifics of obtaining an I-20 form. For more details or additional information on obtaining a visa as an international student, contact the Office of International Affairs Office.

Interviews
Personal interviews are by invitation only and are held at the College of Dental Medicine. A bench exam is required of those applicants invited for interview. CDM will administer the exam on a one-time basis and on a specified date. The exam will involve conducting operative and prosthetic procedures on a mannequin; CDM will provide all necessary instruments.
