Patient 1

Mandibular guidance prosthesis.

This prosthesis is for patients who have had a segment of their mandible (lower jaw) removed. The continuity of the mandible is disrupted. As a result of missing musculature and bone, the mandible deviates toward the defect side.

Mandibular guidance prosthesis with jaws closed.

The mandibular guidance prosthesis helps alleviate the deviation of the mandible by guiding the remaining jaw into a more normal relationship.

Patient 2

Intraoral view of patient who had lower jaw surgery and reconstruction.

Patient had mandibular resection surgery to remove cancer. The mandible’s integrity was restored with reconstruction.

Lip support prosthesis.

Initially a prosthesis was constructed to support the patient’s lower lip and cheek to improve the external cosmetics.

Lip support
mandibular resection prosthesis Final mandibular resection prosthesis with teeth.

The prosthetic teeth and pink acrylic support the lower lip.

Patient 3

Implant-retained dental prosthesis in place.

A procedure to remove cancer from the lower jaw called a marginal mandibulectomy was used. The mandible remained continuous. The patient was restored with a dental prosthesis for the lower jaw.

The prosthesis is retained by five bone-integrated implants.

Patient 4

Patient had a segment of the lower jaw removed.

The mandible was discontinuous. The mandible was reconstructed with bone from the hip.
