Initial Visit and Registration

To register, please come to the 7th Floor of the Vanderbilt Clinic, located at 622 West 168th Street in New York City. Your initial visit will also take place at this location.

At the first visit, you will be greeted and asked to fill out a comprehensive medical history form detailing, among other things, any medications you are taking and your reason for seeking dental care. Upon review of this information, you will receive a brief clinical exam and all necessary radiographs. Please be sure to bring any radiographs you may have from previous dental examinations; they may provide your new oral health care provider with useful information.

After Registration

Upon review of your initial examination and radiographs, you will be referred to a provider who will best meet your needs. You will either be given an appointment or be called by the provider to whom you have been assigned.

At the next appointment, you will be introduced to your dentist, who will administer a comprehensive dental examination. At this time, your new dental care provider will inform you of possible treatment plans, the costs and anticipated length of your treatment options, and your responsibilities as a patient.

As part of your comprehensive examination, several faculty members may be asked to examine you. Although this may take some time, please be assured that our professionals only want to provide you with the highest-quality oral health care available, which requires both time and thoroughness.

Specialized Patient Care Centers

Columbia University’s College of Dental Medicine (CDM) has established a number of centers of excellence that focus on addressing very specific oral health care issues—but at minimal financial cost to patients.

Individuals who require complex, often prolonged dental treatments and services (such as dental implant surgery, therapy for chronic head, facial or jaw pain, or clinical plastic surgery) often do not have the kind of insurance coverage or economic means to finance their care

CDM is committed to making these state-of-the-art services available to people for whom such treatments might otherwise be out of reach—fulfilling a core mission to democratize access to first-rate oral health care in the New York City area.
