Course Description

This course will provide you with an overview of laser-assisted procedures in periodontic, prosthodontic and restorative dentistry for children and adults. Various types of lasers such as the Erbium YSGG, YAG 2940nm and the Diode Laser 980nm will be presented. Case presentations will range from minimally invasive techniques to advanced surgical procedures. Comparisons to conventional techniques will be outlined with pre- and post-operative results. Other topics of discussion include laser-related physics, protocol, analgesia, hemostatsis, bacteriostatic effects, tissue response, case selection, patient and practice management considerations. Following the lecture portion of the course, various laser units will be demonstrated and available for you to try “test drive” on turkey hotdogs.

Course Objectives
This course will enable you to:

  • Be current with cutting-edge concepts, techniques and technology in Laser Dentistry.
  • Understand the physics of lasers: wavelengths, protocol, parameters, safety and limitations.
  • Become familiar with case selection and clinical applications of lasers in specialty and general dentistry settings.
  • Gain an in-depth understanding of the laser with a focus on the treatment of periodontal disease.
  • Understand Low Level Light Therapy (LLLT), PhotoDynamic Therapy (PDT), and Photo BioModulation.

TUITION & FEES: *CDM Alumni and all dental hygienists/staff receive a 10% discount on listed tuition for all Continuing Education (CE) courses. Alumni graduating within five (5) years prior to a course receive a 20% discount. CDM faculty and staff receive a 50% discount on listed tuition rates. Retired alumni not requiring CE credits may audit courses at no charge, dependent on space availability.

CANCELLATION POLICY: Cancellation of a course will result in a refund or credit to your CE account. Refunds are granted only if notification is received in writing at least 72 hours prior to the course. For Implantology Continuum and other extended or internatinoal sessions, please refer to the dedicated course webpage for specific cancellation details for those courses. Columbia University cannot assume responsibility for losses due to participants' travel arrangements. Tuitions for no-shows will be forfeited.

Courses are held at the Columbia University Medical Center located at West 168th Street in northern Manhattan. Meeting facilities at the Morningside campus and conference space in midtown Manhattan are occasionally utilized. Classes and symposia are also held overseas.
