Office of Access, Equity, & Inclusion
The Columbia University College of Dental Medicine believes that we have a responsibility to support everyone in our community. We seek talent from all human communities and to lower barriers so that all groups can succeed. It is the responsibility of all health care providers, and particularly ours, as a leading dental school, to be allies against prejudice within and beyond our community. We realize our mission by taking concrete steps to welcome, support, and uplift all members in our college. We believe that such actions strengthen our college and allow us to have the most impact as educators, clinicians, and researchers and to bring the rewards of those efforts to the largest number of people.
The College of Dental Medicine welcomes students and faculty from all backgrounds, ethnicities and circumstances with the conviction that diversity creates a vibrant and exciting learning environment. It is part of our mission to promote a climate for multiculturalism and inclusion within our community for students, faculty, staff, and patients.
The Office of Access, Equity, & Inclusion (OAEI) serves as the internal support system for under-represented students, faculty and staff and plays an integral role in their recruitment and retention . The OAEI has implemented various programs to increase the training of students from under-represented communities in the College of Dental Medicine predoctoral and postdoctoral programs.
Columbia University College of Dental Medicine Admissions Policy on Diversity
The College of Dental Medicine seeks a diverse student body in order to create a diverse body of thought and interest within this community of scholars. The candidate’s background in the sciences, future career intentions, unique abilities, personality, life experiences, and general accomplishments are carefully reviewed in seeking a diverse student body. For instance, a student who has demonstrated unique talents and skills in research, or who has a unique life mission in public health service, brings to our student body another important measure of diversity. Diversity of all kinds is a core value of our institution. We strive to create a campus community that reflects a variety of perspectives and lived experiences. Every application receives a holistic and comprehensive review to ensure that CDM enrolls a diverse student body.
We are committed to the well-being and success of all community members. Columbia complies with all applicable civil rights laws and does not engage in illegal preferences or discrimination.
