Infection Prevention in the Dental Setting and/or CPR Re-certification

Course Description 

Session 1: Infection Prevention in the Dental Setting (morning)

This course will provide you with an overview of infectious diseases encountered in the dental environment. A thorough review of the current ADA/CDC Infection Control Recommendations will be presented. The course will focus on the implementation and compliance issues associated with maintaining adequate asepsis in the clinical dental environment. Hand hygiene and waterline maintenance will also be reviewed. The course will satisfy the New York State Board of Dentistry requirement for re-licensure.

Session 2: CPR Re-certification (afternoon)

This course will provide re-certification for those previously certified in Basic Cardiac Life Support through the American Heart Association. The emphasis will be on skill performance and evaluation, with didactic portions for updating new guidelines written since your last certification. Basic Life Support skills to be reviewed include rescue breathing, one rescuer CPR, two rescuer CPR, and conscious and unconscious foreign body airway obstruction management for all age patients. In addition to American Heart Association content, this course will discuss realistic practical approaches for applying these skills in an emergency. Certification is dependent upon mastering the psychomotor skills and successful completion of a written examination. Previous CPR Certification is required. The course will include training in the use of an Automatic External Defibrillator.

Learning Objectives

Session 1: Infection Prevention in the Dental Setting (morning)

This course will enable you to:

  • Define the four goals of infection control
  • Identify the proper infection control measures to attaining these goals
  • Recognize how a safe workplace can be achieved in a practical and cost-effective manner
  • Understand compliance issues

Session 2: CPR Re-certification (afternoon)

This course will enable you to:

  • Confidently and independently perform all current American Heart Association Basic Life Support CPR skills on adults, children, and infants
  • Use a Bag Valve Mask and Automatic External Defibrillator
  • Be prepared to handle an actual life and death situation

Tuition and Fees

CDM Alumni and all dental hygienists/staff receive a 10% discount on listed tuition for all Continuing Education (CE) courses. Alumni graduating within five (5) years prior to a course receive a 20% discount. CDM faculty and staff receive a 50% discount on listed tuition rates. 

Cancellation Policy

Cancellation of a course will result in a refund or credit. Refunds are granted only if notification is received at least 72 hours prior to the course. Columbia University cannot assume responsibility for losses due to participants' travel arrangements. Tuitions for no-shows will be forfeited

ADA CERP is a service of the American Dental Association to assist dental professionals in identifying quality providers of continuing dental education. ADA CERP does not approve or endorse individual courses or instructors, nor does it imply acceptance of credit hours by boards of dentistry. Participants: Continuing Education credits awarded for participation in the CE activity may not apply toward license renewal in all states. It is the responsibility of each participant to verify the requirements of his/her licensing board(s) and to report credits to the appropriate authority.
