Aaron Myers '12, Peds '14, is Named Senior Associate Dean for Clinical Affairs

Dr. Aaron Myers, ’12, Peds ’14, has been appointed to the role of the senior associate dean for clinical affairs at Columbia University’s College of Dental Medicine.

Dr. Myers connection to CDM is strong. After earning his B.S. in biology from Cornell University, he earned a D.D.S. from Columbia University College of Dental Medicine and completed his specialty training in pediatrics at New York-Presbyterian Hospital. His father, Dr. Ronnie Myers, is also a CDM alumnus, a former member of the CDM faculty, a former interim dean of CDM and served for many years in the same role that Dr. Myers now holds. Dr. Ronnie Myers is now the dean of the Touro College of Dental Medicine.

In fact, Dr. Myers says, he recalls visiting his father in the very same office that is now his. “I remember very vividly coming to work with my dad once or twice a year, when I was growing up, sitting in his office, meeting faculty and students.” Myers says it made an impression.

In addition to leading all clinical operations at the dental school, Dr. Myers teaches pediatric dentistry both clinically and didactically to pre-doctoral dental students and post-doctoral dental residents. Dr. Myers says that he knew that he wanted to work in academic dentistry early in his dental training and when he was offered the senior associate dean role, he says that his only hesitation was that the administrative role would require that he reduce his teaching load.

Dr. Myers first weeks in his new position were especially intense. He stepped into the role, which was previously held by Dr. Biana Roykh, shortly before the CODA accreditation site visit. He credits the positive outcome to the fact that CDM “already had a good framework in place.” He says that even though he took on his new role just as the College was in the final stages of preparing for accreditation, he “had been heavily involved in preparing” for the visit and felt very confident in the clinical team.

Dr. Myers lives in Westchester with his wife, 11-year-old twin boys, and eight-year-old son.
