James Fine DMD Receives NYCDA Commendation
James Fine, DMD, professor of dental medicine, attending dentist on the Presbyterian Hospital Dental Service, chief practice director for faculty practices at the Columbia University College of Dental Medicine, and senior associate dean for postdoctoral academic and student affairs at CDM is the 2024 recipient of the Henry Spenadel Award.
The award, the highest honor that the New York County Dental Society bestows, is named for Dr. Henry Spenadel, who bequeathed the New York County Dental Society (which was then known as the First District Dental Society) an annual endowment to be used for the advancement of education in dentistry. In 1995, to honor Dr. Spenadel, New York County established the Henry Spenadel Award, which recognizes an individual or organization for their significant contributions to the advancement of the dental profession. Previous CDM faculty members to receive the honor have included Dr. Irwin Mandel in 1974, Dr. Louis Mandel in 2002, and Dr. Susan Karabin in 2013.
Dr. Fine has been a member of the CDM faculty for 35 years and has served in a number of administrative roles. He has been honored by the American Academy of Periodontology Foundation, the International College of Dentists, and the American Dental Education Association, among others. He earned his dental degree from the Tufts School of Dental Medicine and a certificate of training in periodontics from Fairleigh Dickinson College of Dental Medicine.
“I am honored by and grateful for this recognition by the New York County Dental Society,” Dr. Fine said. “And I am humbled to be included in the list of previous Spenadel Award winners.”
Dr. Fine was presented with award at the NYCDS’s November 4 meeting. Following the presentation, Dr. Fine gave a lecture on "Strategies for Predictable Minimally Invasive Therapies by Utilizing Bone Cement."
