Laureen A. Zubiaurre, DDS

Dr. Laureen Zubiaurre Bitzer received her DMD degree from Fairleigh Dickinson University College of Dental Medicine and completed a General Practice Residency at the Veterans Administration Medical Center at Castle Point, NY. She received her MS and PhD degrees from Teachers College, Columbia University. Dr. Zubiaurre has over 30 years’ experience in Academic Dentistry. She holds appointments as Associate Professor of Dental Medicine at the Columbia University Medical Center and Instructor at Teachers College, Columbia University. Dr. Zubiaurre’s current academic focus includes Preclinical Simulation and Professional Licensure Exam Review. She serves as co-director of the MA in Science and Dental Education Dual Degree program with Teachers College, Columbia University. Alumni of this program have completed postdoctoral residency programs and received faculty appointments at dental schools across the country.

A faculty member at CDM since 1989, she has served in many roles including Senior Associate Dean of Admissions and Career Planning, Director of the Advanced Standing Program, and director of the third year predoctoral clinical program. She is a fellow of the American College of Dentists and a consultant member with the Commission on Dental Competency Assessments (CDCA). Dr. Zubiaurre is an active member of the American Dental Education Association (ADEA) and serves as chair of the ADEA Section of Education, Research and Curriculum Development. She completed the ADEA Leadership Institute and has served as a mentor for the Academic Dental Careers Fellowship Program. Her scholarly interests include the use of reflection, predictors for success in dental school, readiness to practice, and how the use of assessment systems can affect performance on high-stakes exams.
